The first location of the Lutheran Church of Nigeria was a few minutes walk from the family home of Late Rev. Dr. Jonathan Udo Ekong. The building is located on the land given to Jonathan by his father who was the Chief but the Patriach’s mother, Madam Ubaha Anwa Ekwere, counselled the son by advising him to seek permission from his father before using the land for missions. Yes, he was given the land but he took permission from the father before he gave to the missionary for the building of the mother church, in Afaha. The church is very significant to the Ekong’s family and holds many memories.
The Headquarters of the Lutheran Church of Nigeria is now located at Obot Idim Ibesikpo, Akwa Ibom State. Here, annual conventions and workshops of different groups in the church are held.
