The founder of the women fellowship of the church was Deaconess Dinah Jonathan Ekong. The Lutheran Church of Nigeria Women Fellowship (LCNWF) started in 1971 in Obot Idim. The aim of the women fellowship is to sensitize women as to their role at home, in the church and in the society. Dinah taught the women English by providing some form of adult education to the level where the women wrote standard 6 exams. The members wear their uniform with pride and the fabric has the picture of the face of their founder.
Under Deaconess Dorcas Umoffia’s (Jonathan Udo Ekong’s daughter) leadership and with the support of these incredible and diligent women, the LCNWF held fellowships, seminars and workshops. They brought in affiliate members from around the world to teach the women how to develop themselves and generate income which aims to unite and strengthen the women.
Some of the income generating projects include soap making, body cream making, sewing, baking, powder making, and other art and craft ideas.
When the women come together for this rally or convention, they pray together and participate in several team building activities such as drama, march past, song competition, quizzes etc.
Some other projects include a Lutheran School… They also have Lutheran Women Center in Obio Offot, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. They are currently in the process of building a women hostel in Obot Idim headquarters.
The current chairperson of LCNWF is Deaconess Eno B. Akpan. The goal is and will always be to empower the women to be able to support their homes, their church and their society
